Elvira

I haven't posted something crocheted in a while, so here is a doll I finally finished. Her name is Elvira. She doesn't have a story, but if she did I'm sure it would be sad, or possibly adventurous.

Maid Marian

This is for the Maid Marian event going on at http://amandabethonline.blogspot.com/.

On October 3rd we had a Sherwood Forest Party,
and this is what I was wearing.

I made the dress and under skirt from the Butterick pattern 4827. I had been wanting to try the pattern for a while, and what a good excuse!I was very happy with how it turned out.

The dress laces up the back.Wayfarers Park was beatiful that day

Band of happy!

About a week ago, I made this headband. Again, I was kinda copying something I found on etsy, but it turned out way different. It is so fun to wear and is remarkably comfy.

Pie!

On Tuesday I made a huckleberry pie with the berries we had picked in Jewel Basin the day before. I thought all the berries would be gone by now, but when we hiked up for about 24 minutes you could sit down just about anywhere and pick to your hearts content.

"Puffy Shirt"

My brother Luke wanted a "Puffy" pirate, Robin Hood, Crusoe, medieval, fencing shirt. So after some debate about what he actually wanted, I finally just made him this shirt using a McCall's pattern. "I" really like the way it turned out, Luke is somewhat pleased (he says it is too "Puffy") but I think He likes it good enough. A while ago I also made his these breeches, and a cape.

Fingerless gloves

I had some left over wool ease yarn (my favorite) so I made a pair of fingerless gloves for the fall. They are kinda weird but I like them. This time of year I look forward to the fall and all its lovely colors, but by the end of November I'm dying for summer. I have discontentment issues with the weather, whatever its not I want it to be (most the time) like,

Winter- summer,

Fall- summer,

Spring- Summer, (do you notice a pattern?)

Summer- fall,

sunny- Happy! (unless we can't go swimming that day)

snow- sunny

muddy- sunny

rainy- sunny

Windy- lov'in it! (I love the wind, unless it's dusty)

slushy- sunny

hailing- sunny

Bonnet

Since I had extra fabric from my underskirt I decided to try another bonnet. I'm liking it much better then my first one. It's about half way done. Here is a picture of it in progress.

Finished!

Well, my dress is completely, and utterly, finished! I couldn't find metal clasps, but I did find these large cloth covered hook and eyes. They worked, and plus they were on sale. So I just stuck them on and I really like the way they look so, unless I find some really neat metal clasps, they're here to stay.

Medieval Dress

I pretty much finished my medieval dress today! The only thing unfinished is the clasps or belt, to keep the skirt up. I'm not sure if I like the belt idea, so Hannah said that I should do like a metal clasp, I liked it. The dress came together very nicely, and is oh so much fun to wear.

Sewing Room

Yesterday I got the fabric to make this (unauthentic) medieval dress. I'm doing the view with the picked up hem. For the dress I got a dark brown suiting fabric (it was cheap) and for the underskirt I got a kinda pinkish almost taffeta like fabric for very cheep (it was only a dollar a yard!) at Joann's.
Today I made the underskirt, I thought while I was making it that it was going to be to small, but besides having to "suck it in" when I'm putting it on, it fits great and plus, it's only the underskirt. When it was finished I didn't even have to cut inches off the bottom, I hemmed it up and it was the absolute right length! I thought it turned out very pretty (just don't ask to look on the inside). OK now I now your thinking "Megan, how in the world is that ever going to be wearable with that train! It's going to pick up all sorts of icky things when you walk in it like , sticks, pine cones and leftover bionicle pieces forgotten in the lawn." But It's so much fun to walk around in, I feel like royalty going to a ball, that I just couldn't get myself to cut it off. If it does become to much of a problem, though I might do a bustle like thing that they do on wedding dress trains. Oh, and looking at it I noticed that It would work perfect for a late Victorian fancy skirt!

Hammock, ahhh......

After the yard sale me and my hurtin' feet went for a relaxing nap on the hammock. But when I noticed all the photo opportunities I abandoned all comfort to snap some pics for everyone to enjoy the pure, simple, joy that only comes from lounging in a hammock.

motocycles comiot!

I went to this little antique/consignment store and found this tin print. The actual tin is not antique but the print is from 1899. I really liked the "modern" woman riding her bike through all the geese and the grumpy looking people in the background looking angry at her. I couldn't get my camera to take a good picture without a glare, but I did find the exact same picture on google images.

Pillows

On Saturday I thought my room needed some color so I quickly made three pillows for my bed. The Green paisley is vintage fabric I got at a yard sale, I think it's from the 70's. I "plan" on making two bright blue striped ones to go with them too.

Leather

A few days ago, my mom found a piece of leather in her room and she gave it to me. So right away I knew what I was going to make, a pair of leather shoes! . I know they're weird but they do have practical applications.

1. They are so comfy so I'll just wear them around the house.
2. Costume parties (though seldom they may be)
3. If I ever get invited to Big foot's family reunion!

I only wish I could read all those lovely artificial ingredients! Also, today in town we got the ingredients to make strawberry Italian soda. yum............. Sorry I don't have pictures of the soda , I already drank all mine.

Caveat Emptor

Last night I read a disturbing fact. It said "some common red food coloring are made from dried insects called cochineal". So I decided to investigate this claim. Way to soon I found it to be true. The shell in red M&M’s, Strawberry Yogurt, fruit punch, pink frosting, most things that are red or pink are made from this female bug! You’ll also find it’s what gives makeup it’s nice red or pick shading. It is labeled under Carmine, or "artificial coloring" what’s artificial about smashed bugs?
But before you decide to vow off anything that is red, Cochineal does support subsistence farmers in poor parts of the world, and is remarkably non-toxic. But just know that next time you feel like putting on some blush, or go to eat that bag of M&M’s you might be using a few dead bugs.
