An Idol By Any Other Name

I believe I will discontinue this blog for personal reasons . I don't think it is good to keep it up. The first commandment is "thou shalt have no other gods before me", not, "thou shalt blog". I don't think God wants me to blog any longer. Where did it get me in my walk with God? NO where. Looking back, what a waste of time. It can become a god like anything else, even if you don't think it can. I'm not saying that everyone should stop, not it all. It can be a good way to share God's word, encouragement, etc. but I'm just saying be careful.
sincerely,
Megan
P.S I'm not going to delete my blog, just not blog on it any more, or at least for a time.

I'm glad to hear it! I like the chioce you made, although that does not mean you can only write every two months or something. It really made me glad to see that you realized it might be becoming a stand-in-the-way-of-God type of thing.(By the way, this is Jillian)
We Carstensen girls might have a blog, but that does not mean we will forget God completely. Anyway, glad to hear it. :) God bless.

You know I don't think you should give it up completely, Or even not do any blogging for an extended period of time, though I do agree you shouldn't make an idol of it.I think it would be great if you could use it to challenge others in their walk with Christ (as well as yourself) through different things you could put on."As iron sharpens iron, so a man sharpens the countenance of his friend." Proverbs 27:17
"Remind them of these things, charging them before the Lord not to strive about words to no profit, to the ruin of the hearers. Be diligent to present yourself approved to God, a worker who does not need to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth. But shun profane and idle babblings, for they will increase to more ungodliness." 2 Timothy 2:14-16
Use this blog as an opportunity to encourage and bless others, as well as glorifying the Lord, I mean come on, you have the honor and privilege to use this to give glory to and praise the King of kings! So take advantage of that. It is a joy and delight (or should be) to do so."And this I pray, that your love may abound still more and more in knowledge and all disernmanet, that you may approve the things that are axcellent, that you may be sicere and without offense till the day of Christ, being filled with the fruits of rightousness whish are by jesus Christ to the glory and praise of God." Phillipians 1:9-11

Megan, I'm impressed by your sensitivity to God's conviction in this area. May each of us be tender to his leading in ALL areas of our lives, including blogging (I'm preaching to myself!).

I think it's wise to lay it aside for a time if you think God is telling you to. A blog is a tool, like a wrench. It can be used for all kinds of things, good or bad. But even a tool can become a problem if we get obsessed with it. If a time does come when you believe you can resume, just use the blog as a tool to do those things you thought were lacking the first go around. Like anything, we have to be careful how much time we spend doing one thing and make sure we are not neglecting other things (preaching at myself pretty good there).

Keep following hard after God, ask, seek, and knock, and it will be opened.

God bless,
Joshua Moore
