Day 17: The gentleman

For an art piece I just love this painting.

I can just imagine what they are saying.

The gentleman: "OK now ladies follow me, flutter you fan like this, then draw back your skirt into a slight curtsy."

Ladies try

The gentleman: "Very well done," his stomach growls because he hasn't eaten lunch yet.

The chaperons: "Isn't he just dashing, I'm just sure he and Lucy will be married by the spring."

"No, no, I heard he is quite fond of Mary."

"I'm sure your mistaken, he had tea with us a fortnight ago and said how much he admired her scones, and said he would come again when work permitted him."

"Well, at the ball last night he danced twice with Mary, and I'm sure would have danced two times more if your Lucy hadn't practically wrote his name on her dance card."

"What are you implying about my Lucy?"

"Why nothing, whatever could you mean?"

The gentleman: Thinking about how all he wants to do is go to his residence, and leave these empty headed girls and their fans.

Stolen Craft

Like any good little crafter I save old wool sweaters for crafts. Although I've never actually done anything with them, I still kept them for "just in case I ever need them". I've found some cute patterns for pillows, gloves, and little animals, but I just never felt inspired to cut up a sweater to make anything.

Today I was doing my rounds (blogs, e-mail, and etsy) and I found this really cute video on etsy. here is the link. Finally, I could feel happy bubbles and stars exploding in my head. I asked mom, and she said it was fine so off I went. After I felted it, I began construction, or deconstruction. It went from a huge sweater, to a swing jacket, and then I finally decided to cut it to capelet size. At first I was hesitant but after a few good snips I went wild.

So here is my ending project.

Winter

Well, winter is officially here, which means Christmas and New Year, ice skating, skiing, sledding, snowshoeing, shoveling, wet socks, and slush. though I can't say winter is my favorite season (It actually comes third after Summer, then Fall) There is something felicity about watching snow falling, and wrapping gifts.

Parade!

Last night the Valley Voices Choir was in the Kallispell parade. Hannah, Caitlin, Jillian, Hayley, Nora, Nicole, the Stafford girls, and myself, all dress up in Victorian dresses. It was so much fun handing out candy to cute little kids! I don't think I've had that much fun for a long time. I totally came out of my comfort zone. Giving little kids my biggest cheesiest smile and telling them I liked their hat, or gasp and say that I have the same name too! The hardest part was trying to hand tiny little kids candy with mittens on. They would just drop it! We had the Llama, Alpaca group behind us, and Hannah and I would keep merging with the llamas when we were slow at handing out candy. I was so funny to hear what people said about us. We had some parents ask us if we were faeries! I mean come on, do faeries were hoop skirts, bonnets, and leather gloves! We must of heard over 20 people say princesses, and many asked what play we were from. Just about every kid we handed candy to, their parents would say "say thank you" It was cute, but every kid! Didn't any of them know how to say it by themselves! And anyway I didn't have time to wait around for each kid to say thank for a tootsie roll. Oh, and half way through the parade my bonnet kept falling off so I ran over and put it on the float. It was embarrassing trying to get it off because the ties got caught in my scarf and the Llamas were catching up. I was like pulling and twisting, but finally got it off. It truly was a blast!

Sorry I don't have any pictures. Tell me if you want me to call about the Bigfork parade, and maybe caroling in Bigfork again.

Bonnet

Since I had extra fabric from my underskirt I decided to try another bonnet. I'm liking it much better then my first one. It's about half way done. Here is a picture of it in progress.

Sewing Room

Yesterday I got the fabric to make this (unauthentic) medieval dress. I'm doing the view with the picked up hem. For the dress I got a dark brown suiting fabric (it was cheap) and for the underskirt I got a kinda pinkish almost taffeta like fabric for very cheep (it was only a dollar a yard!) at Joann's.

Today I made the underskirt, I thought while I was making it that it was going to be to small, but besides having to "suck it in" when I'm putting it on, it fits great and plus, it's only the underskirt. When it was finished I didn't even have to cut inches off the bottom, I hemmed it up and it was the absolute right length! I thought it turned out very pretty (just don't ask to look on the inside). OK now I now your thinking "Megan, how in the world is that ever going to be wearable with that train! It's going to pick up all sorts of icky things when you walk in it like , sticks, pine cones and leftover bionicle pieces forgotten in the lawn." But It's so much fun to walk around in, I feel like royalty going to a ball, that I just couldn't get myself to cut it off. If it does become to much of a problem, though I might do a bustle like thing that they do on wedding dress trains. Oh, and looking at it I noticed that It would work perfect for a late Victorian fancy skirt!
